Abstract Objective Our aim is to investigate the methods for the improvement of cervical cancer clinical staging. Methods We compared the coincidence rates of clinical staging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) staging with pathological staging using case control study. Results The accuracies of MRI staging was higher than that of clinical staging in both IB stage of cervical cancer (P < 0.05) and all cases (P < 0.01). Conclusion It is important to use MRI scan in the clinical staging in cervical cancer. Be careful in chosing surgical therapy when MRI shows that the outer cervix membrane is coarse or fuzzy.
