Abstract Objective To study the effect of electromagnetic irradiation on PKC translocation and activation. Methods After exposure to 5 W/cm2 microwave, the change of PKC kinase activity in rat hippocampus was detected by Takai method, AMPA receptor phosphorylation level was determined by Western-blotmethod.Results 5 W/cm2 microwave irradiation increased PKC kinase activity after exposure 3~5d and this effect continued for 15d, and the irradiation have no obvious effect on AMPA receptor phosphrylation in rat hippocampus. Conclusion The results showed that PKC-AMPA pathway may not be involved in the central nervous system injury induced by 5 W/cm2 microwave irradiation.
