Abstract Objective To monitor and analyze the level of γ radiation and effective dose of workers in Shenzhen metro lines. Methods In metro stations, the γ radiation dose rate was determined by the universal monitor of radiation protection LB 123, the annual effective dose from γ radiation was calculated. Results The γ radiation dose rate of Shenzhen metro lines ranged from 0.08 to 0.35 μSv/h, with an average value of 0.168 μSv/h. The annual effective dose from γ radiation was 0.966 mSv/a for the workers. Conclusion The γ radiation levels of Shenzhen metro lines fall within the natural background values. The workers in the metro receive no additional external radiation dose.
