Abstract In order to accurately or reasonably evaluate harmful extent of inhalation exposure for workers in the workplace, it is important to ensure the reliability and practicality of the personal respirable dust sampler. This new type 5 stage cassette impactor has been comprehensively evaluated or measured under various mimic wind velocity (o, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.3 and 3.5m/s) and different the orientations of sampling inlet to air flow (0°、90° and 180°) to obtain the correlation curves between collection efficiency of this multistage cassette impactor and wind velocity or the orientations of sampling inlet, besides the results of experimental measurement has been compared with some criteria collection efficiency curves established by BMRC, AEC and ACGIH.The results of experimental study indicate that the collection efficiencies curves of this multi-stage cassette impactor under various experimental conditions are very closely matched to those criteria collection efficiencies curves. This multi-stage cassette impactor is an ideal personal respirable dust sampling equipment in actual application.
