Abstract Objective To study the characteristics and monitoring methods for patient doses in medical diagnostic X-ray so as to offer a scientific basis for the determinations of guidance levels which both coincide with the international practice and our domestic reality.Methods Comprehensive analysis and evaluation was made according to our experimental results and suggestions from the international bodies concerned.Results Patient doses and monitoring methods were discussed for X-ray examinations, X-ray CT, breast and dentist radiography.Conclusion The determination of guidance levels will definitely promote the optimization of radiatio protection.
