Abstract Objective To master Ya'an environment gamma radiation levels, understand the residents' living environment natural radiation level of external exposure, and estimate residents' exposure dose. Methods Using stratified random method, We detected real-time environmental gamma radiation dose rate in each township in Ya'an, and make analysis to estimate the environmental gamma radiation dose rate and the effective dose equivalent of the residents. Results Ya'an environmental gamma radiation dose rate was 117.97 nGy/h, and its public exposure per person in effective dose was 0.72 mSv, which were both slightly higher than the average level of our country. Conclusion Ya'an natural radioactive environment is safe and reliable, with no adverse impact on people. It is completely suitable for human habitation.
