Abstract Objective To preliminarily explore the radioprotective effects of the aqueous extract of S.obval-lata DC.Edgew on the sperm of mice from radiation injury. Methods Before irradiated with 4 Gy of X-ray, administered the mice were different doses of aqueous extract of S.obval-lata DC.Edgew for 14 days.Drugs were respectively given directly to stomach at different dose for low, middle and high dose groups.35 days after irradiation, mice were sacrificed and measured the sperm deformity rate. Results Each treatment group with irradiation group compared with the irradiated group, Sperm deformity rate of the low dose, middle dose and high dose mice was lower than that of the model group, among which in the dose group and high dose group it was significantly lower than that of the exposure group, there was significant difference, P<0.05.Conclusion The natural herb S.obval-lata DC.Edgew active ingredient have some degree of radioprotective effects on the germ cells in mice.
