Abstract Objective To develop a quantitative method for determination of pyrethroid insecticide (fenvalerate) and its metabolites (3-PBA) in human urine by high-performance liquid chromatography. Methods After acidification and C18 SEP-PAK solid phase extraction,the urine samples were analyzed by Zorbox SB C18 separation and DAD detector. Results A good liner relationship was obtained and the correlation coefficient were greater than 0.996. Relative standard deviation(RSD) and recoveries of fenvalerate and 3-PBA were both less than 10.0% and greater than 75%. Limit of detection of fenvalerate and 3-PBA were 0.78 μg/ml and 1.93 μg/ml respectively. Conclusion As it is convenient, low cost and reproducible, the method can meet biomonitoring requirements for general and special populations.
