Abstract Objective To improve the accuracy of material recognition with X-ray. Methods By using Monte Carlo method to simulate the material discrimination of dual-energy X-ray. Results Relationship of six materials between recognition curves and atomic number was confirmed. Conclusion Monte Carlo method can improve the material classification of practical security inspection systems
